Teletherapy… tele-what?! Te-le-the-ra-py. Teletherapy uses live audio and video communication so that therapy services can be provided… just about anywhere! At Exceptional Speech Therapy, we offer speech and occupational teletherapy to eligible children throughout the state of Florida.
We use a parent-friendly, HIPPA compliant (privacy protected) platform, called Zoom, to connect your child with one of our highly trained specialists. Zoom enables our therapists to share screens so children can actively interact, participate, and engage with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities.
No matter your child’s age, teletherapy can work remarkably well. Some children participate in teletherapy with minimal parental help, while others require full parental involvement.
For our older children, our therapists often use fun interactive activities in order to increase engagement and participation.
For our younger ones, parents act as our hands, as they are guided to play therapeutically with the use of daily objects and toys. Teletherapy is also integrated into daily activities (e.g., mealtime, dresstime, bathtime), which is not only convenient for the parent, but it is also one of the best times to target goals.
To add to the benefits of teletherapy, parents can be assured that their child is gaining valuable skills and social experiences in the comfort of their natural environment.
There is extensive research that supports the efficacy of speech and occupational teletherapy. Along with research that supports teletherapy, our therapists and parents have seen extensive progress in our children that have been receiving speech and occupational teletherapy services, largely due to the rapid carryover of skills in the home setting. The parents are using the exact strategies and prompts that our therapists utilize to target specific goals, resulting in increased carryover of skills in everyday activities. Once children carry over the learned skills into settings beyond therapy, that is when all of the progress can be observed.
The idea of teletherapy can seem overwhelming; however, due to the positive results we’ve seen, we encourage you to give it a try.
Ok, but is there any research on teletherapy?
A systematic review was conducted to determine if teletherapy-delivered speech-language pathology interventions are as effective as traditional in-person delivery for children, revealing “both telehealth and in-person participants made significant and similar improvements.” (Wales, D., Skinner, L., & Hayman, M., 2017).
A study examined the use of telepractice as a method of speech and language services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), revealing that “a telepractice service delivery method is an effective and valid way to provide interventions to students with ASD” (Boisvert, M., 2012).
A research project conducted by the Mayo Clinic indicated: “telemedicine evaluations can be reliable, beneficial, and acceptable to patients with a variety of acquired speech and language disorders, both in rural settings and within large multidisciplinary medical settings.” (Duffy, J.R., Werven, G., Aronson, A., 1997).
My two year old has been doing speech therapy with Nicole for a couple of months. From just speaking five to seven words, she is now speaking full sentences, asking questions, telling me how her day was, asking for help and using her verbs.
I cannot express all the gratitude I have for giving my baby the push, the confidence and guidance. Nicole surely knows how to do her job very well and has made a special bond with my baby!

TeleTherapy has been easy transition for my child. Every session is full of learning and fun activities.
Rebecca and Mildred keep my child right on target. Both of them are highly skilled with years of experience working with families and special needs children. I am happy with his progress. This place is highly recommended.

What materials do I need?
To receive teletherapy services, you need an electronic device with video/audio compatibility such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a stable internet connection.
Teletherapy is so easy–you should see how much we target with just a spoon!
Why are we exceptional?
We have highly-educated and highly-trained therapists. We stay current through frequent workshops with the most up-to-date techniques and strategies.
We offer engaging therapies in order to keep your child happy and eager to learn.
Not all children are the same and not all families are the same. We personalize each child’s therapy by addressing their needs and building on their strengths in order to achieve optimum success.
Our therapists love what they do! They are passionate and understanding to every child’s needs.
We are motivated by a child’s progress. A child’s hug, a child’s smile, a child’s laughter… are some of the things that make our therapists know that they are in the right career.

We accept most insurances and self pay therapy.
Most insurance plans require a prescription from your child’s pediatrician stating “Speech evaluation and treatment” or “Occupational evaluation and treatment”.
Our self pay rates are as follows:
$175 for a thorough evaluation and plan of care
$75 for a 50-60 minute treatment session
$40 for a 25-30 minute treatment session
If you’ve called around for prices, you’re probably a little shocked at how low our rates are. Our teletherapy self pay rates are very affordable because, at Exceptional Speech Therapy we care about providing accessible treatment to all children needing services. We want to offer the opportunity to provide consistent, quality therapy without your family feeling the financial burden.
